There was no cellphone signal
And The set-up was stressful
Like a crawfish down your pants.
The heat was faint-inducing
Deadlines went whooshing
By like you never had a chance.
You never saw it coming
You never suspected something
Might ever explode like this.
You kept your head down
And tried not to look around
Waiting for something to go amiss.
A lot of people you didn’t know
And thinking about when to go
You almost miss how beautiful she looks.
Somehow it gets a little cooler
The wrinkles get a little smoother
And the trees look like they’re from a book.
The music gets out of place
But the look on her face
Makes you see no one cares who sings.
You step on his feet when you dance
And in a moment there’s a glance
Where you realize there are worse things.
